Hope for a Single Mother Battling Illness in a Crisis-Hit Region

Life in a Conflict Zone

Here is the story of a 31-year-old single mother raising four children on her own. She comes from Mamfe, a town in the Manyu Division of the South West Region. This community has been deeply affected by the ongoing Anglophone crisis in Cameroon.

A Struggle with Health

Sadly, her struggles go beyond the conflict. She recently discovered she has a goitre, a condition linked to hyperthyroidism. For the past six months, she has battled discomfort and confusion as her body changed. Without money for proper treatment, she could only watch her condition worsen.

As her health grew more troubling, she started reaching out for help. She contacted friends and former classmates, hoping for support. Through these efforts, St. Charles Medical Foundation learned about her situation and decided to step in.

First Steps in Treatment

Our first step was to provide financial assistance. This made it possible for her to visit the hospital and undergo proper medical consultation. In Mamfe, doctors carried out tests, prescribed medication, and examined the goitre more closely.

Searching for Help

However, her condition needed specialist attention. The doctors referred her to Limbe, where she could see an ENT specialist for further care. This referral gave her new hope for recovery and a chance to live healthier while continuing to care for her children.

A Journey of Hope

Her journey is far from over, but it is a step forward. She is no longer alone in her struggle. Support has reached her at a time when she needed it most.
